Interview

Interview was made in Russia. Moscow. The interviewers were found in different places in Moscow such as Red Square, VDNKh ( All-Russia Exhibition Centre (Russian: Всероссийский выставочный центр)) and next to the Bolshoi Theatre. People were around the age of 17-23. They were from middle social economic status. Some people were interviewed  in groups some of them –alone.
5 men and 5 women in Russia were asked a few questions about gender equality.
- Define feminism
- Do you believe in gender equality?
- Do you think women should have the same amount of rights as men?

Below is the paraphrased interview of 10 people.
4 men out of 5 believe that there is no gender equality and women should not have the same amount of rights as men. They should be in the kitchen and raise children.
One man stated that he believes that there is no gender equality in Russia, but women should have more rights than they have now, but not the same rights as men. He asserted that in Russian society women cannot be treated equally to men, “If women want to be equal to man, they can’t cry when then would be punched in the face” he declared.
5 women out of 5 believe that one day there will be gender equality, but not at the current time. The women shared their opinions and communicated that in Russia it is very difficult to be equal to men. Women have fewer rights, many stereotypes are placed on women, such as reassign children and remaining in the kitchen. There is a stereotype that women are less educated and can not work as well and as hard as men so it is hard to find employment in Russia for women. The women interviewed stated that they believe that in Russia it is very hard to become successful for women. It is difficult to get some respect from men.
2 women out of 5 reported that they want to have equal rights, and they even ready to join the Russian army, as “all” men believe that women would never survive there. Data from the interviews was shared with one woman, “If women want to be equal to man, they can’t cry when then would be punched in the face”. The woman replayed that she is ready to punch back.

3 women out of the 5 interviewed want equality but do not feel that they are ready to join Russian military.
10 out of 10 people interviewed remarked that they believe feminism to only be a women’s movement against inequality.
