Women’s Rights in Orthodox Christianity

  • Women can aspire to be the Mother of God, they are naturally linked with Eve and must work towards achieving Mother of God status while men are naturally equated with God

  • The interest, membership and contributions of the women from Orthodox churches have been minimal in worldwide organizations, with often hostile and negative attitudes from their church leaders.

  • 1970s women had positions within their Orthodox communities - providing elementary religious education for children and youth; singing in choirs (where the tradition of the community allows this); serving as members of groups, and in some places they can even aspire to the presidency of the parish council

  • In some countries, women attend theological seminaries- religion , and in recent years they now research and teach in the faculties of theology in universities, but most often secular universities with departments of theology

  • Finally, the roles of women as parents, teachers and catechisms (learning introduction to the Sacraments traditions) in the church who endeavor to educate the next generation in the faith, were inscribed
